Common causes of neuropathic pain

  • Sciatica, disc prolapse and facet arthopathy (pain caused by degeneration of the joints)
  • Post Laminectomy pain — pain arising in the spinal cord after surgery  (Laminectomy), done ironically, to address chronic back pain
  • Cancer
  • Myofacial pain syndrome — A type chronic pain that affects the muscles
  • Peripheral vascular disease — Pain occurring in the peripheral nerves due to lack of blood supply
  • Diabetic neuropathy — Diabetes damages the periphera’ nervous system
  • Post thoracotomy pain — Pain that occur after a lung surgery.
  • Phantom limb pain The brain never forgets an appendage even after it has been amputated.
