Brush, floss and eat yoghurt? Absolutely. Japanese researchers found that people who ate just 60gm of yoghurt (dahi) per ctay (about one-third of a serving) nearly halved their risks of advanced gum disease, which begins with gingivitis, or inflammation around the gums. Gum disease a problem that afflicts one in seven people under 50 and one in three over can lead to the loss of bone around the teeth and cause pockets to develop between the teeth and gums. Yoghurt’s lactobacilli bacteria (the good type) feed on sugar and make lactic acid that attacks the disease-causing bugs, the experts say.
