An Australia-bound Qantas flight with more than 200 passengers on board has been forced to make an emergency landing in San Francisco after an explosion punched a hole in its engine casing.
Local media is reporting that an engine on the plane’s right side exploded 45 minutes after it took off from San Francisco. The explosion blew a hole in the engine’s external casing.
It is believed the pilot declared an emergency and dumped fuel over the Pacific Ocean as a precaution before returning to the airport. San Francisco Airport officials say there were no injuries.
