Kurnool (AP), Oct 2 (PTI) About 25,000 people were today trapped in Kurnool town as worst floods in recent memory inundated the district in Andhra Pradesh triggered by heavy rains in Karnataka, where the death toll rose to 86 in rain-related incidents.

With river Tungabhadra in spate due to heavy rains in north Karnataka, the famous temple town of Mantralaya, the seat of Raghavendra Mutt in Kurnool district, was submerged under water and people climbed to rooftops to save themselves from flood ravage.

Krishna and Guntur districts braced for the worst with heavy discharge expected from Srisailam reservoir in Kurnool district which is likely to receive a staggering 12 lakh cusecs of water in the next 12 hours, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah told a press conference in Hyderabad in the evening.
